Place your candle
Set a jar candle that fits your ALEC size inside the glass holder.

Light the wick as usual. The lid stays open and the clear glass shows off the glow.

Press Timer on the base to choose a burn time. The display counts down, so you always know how long is left.

What does ALEC do?
ALEC is a glass candle holder that puts your candle out for you. Set a burn time on the base, light your jar candle, and enjoy the glow. When the countdown hits 0:00, the lid swings shut over the glass, cutting off the air the flame needs, and the flame goes out. No blowing, no wax spatter, no snuffer.
Can I open or close the lid myself?
Yes. Press the Open/Close button on the base any time to open the lid, or to put the flame out before the timer ends.
Is ALEC patented?
Yes. ALEC's automatic, timed extinguishing lid is protected by U.S. Patent No. 10,544,938 and European Patent EP 3491291. It was invented by our founder, Shay Philips.
Which candles fit?
Small (body 5.28″ wide × 6.25″ tall) holds jar candles up to 5″ wide and 5″ tall. Large (body 5.00″ wide × 7.50″ tall) is made for taller jar candles. It is slightly slimmer than Small, so check your jar's width as well as its height. Measure your jar at its widest point and full height. Not sure? Contact us with your candle's size and we'll help.
How do I set the timer?
Press the Timer button on the base to choose how long your candle burns. The display counts down the time left, and at 0:00 the lid closes. The instructions in the box walk you through every timer option.
How is ALEC powered?
ALEC is rechargeable through the USB-C port on the base, so there are no disposable batteries to replace. The display shows the battery level. Follow the charging instructions included in the box.
Can I leave a candle burning in ALEC unattended?
No. Treat ALEC like any candle holder: never leave a burning candle unattended, keep it away from anything that can catch fire, and keep it out of reach of children and pets. The timer and lid are a convenience, not a replacement for supervision.
How do I care for ALEC?
Let the holder and candle cool completely before touching, moving, or cleaning. Wipe the glass with a soft, dry cloth.
Is ALEC a good gift?
ALEC arrives in a gift box, so it is ready to give. It suits anyone who already burns jar candles at home.
Can I return ALEC?
All sales are final, so we don't accept returns or give refunds. Please check the fit guide before you order. If your ALEC arrives damaged or doesn't work, contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and photos, and we'll send a replacement. Read the full policy.
How much is shipping?
U.S. standard shipping is free on orders of $70 or more (two ALECs always qualify). Under $70, standard shipping is $8, and Express is $15. Exact options are shown at checkout before you pay. We currently ship within the U.S.
